WhyNotUnmount 0.2 has been released today. A number of bugs are fixed now. WhyNotUnmount will now display all blocking processes regardless of whether they are UI or system processes.

Do you use lsof to find the Apps?

Thanks! Yes, WNU uses lsof to determine open files, pipes, directories, etc. I spent most of the time that went into WNU on the IOKit code to deal with devices and volumes, the lsof part is rather simple. I did not dig into the lsof source but would be very interested in system-level alternatives to forking it. Do you know of any?
